special event:

A contest was announced in the early spring of 2006 to be judged at the May meeting.  The object of the contest was  to create something using a single "Home Depot grade" pine two-by-four.  The contest was judged by vote of all members present.

The contest was organized by Scott Wunder and Nathan Sincox who did a great job of setting the rules and encouraging members to participate.

There were two prizes.  First place and a $100 gift certificate from Wunder Woods went to Vic Barr.  Second place and a $50 gift certificate went to Jim Birkenbach.

Vic Barr showing his prize-winning "House of Cards".
His project used most of a 2 x 4 and a deck of playing cards.

Jim Birkenbach was unable to be present for the meeting, so Scott Wunder showed Jim's prize-winning wooden cars.

In case you can't recognize from the top of his head,
this is Jim Hoeller show off his "Trebuchet".
A trebuchet  is similar to a catapult.

Larry Alvarez made four nice boxes from his
two-by-four.  They were nicely finished despite their Home Depot origin.

Jim Long made a puzzle entitled "A Day at the Zoo with Nathan" using pictures of his young son at the zoo.

Ben Weber made this nice marble rolling game.
This should give some kids hours of fun.
